From prep to plate: discover the magic of slow cooking. Cambridgeshire ACRE's Village Agents are running an informative, interactive session on preparing nutritious meals with ease, with slow cookers and recipes to give away.
From prep to plate
A slow cooker uses roughly the same electricity as a light bulb and will happily look after a meal all day, which makes it one of the cheapest ways there is to cook. This session is a practical introduction: what a slow cooker is good at, how to get a meal into one before you go out, and how to keep the running costs down.
There are slow cookers and recipes to give away, so it is worth coming along even if you have never used one.
Who is running it
The session is run by the Village Agents from Cambridgeshire ACRE, part of the Cambridgeshire Community Hubs Network, and supported by Centre for Warmth in partnership with Cadent. The Village Agents also help with benefits checks, energy advice and staying independent at home, so it is a good chance to ask about anything else while you are there.
Coming along
It is free, but places need to be booked — there is a short online form asking for the name of the person attending. Numbers of giveaway slow cookers are limited, so it is worth booking early rather than turning up on the day.
This is not a Sustainable Witchford event; we are listing it because it is happening in the village and is squarely about using less energy at home.
Getting there and accessibility
There is a ramp at St Andrew's Church Hall.
