About Sustainable Witchford

Background information about the Sustainable Witchford network and what sustainability means in this local context.

What Sustainable Witchford is

Sustainable Witchford is a new community-led network for the village.

The network aims to highlight and support the work that individuals, groups, organisations and businesses are already doing to make Witchford more sustainable, while encouraging and nurturing new ideas with the same goal.

This site is intended to act as a simple shared space for local information, including community groups, practical projects, events, resources and ways to get involved.

What sustainability means here

Sustainability is sometimes used to mean only climate or environmental action. Those things are important, but the idea is broader than that.

For Sustainable Witchford, sustainability is linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, often known as the 17 Goals or SDGs.

The goals provide a broad way of thinking about what makes a place sustainable, including:

The full list of goals can be seen on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals website.

What this means for Witchford

In a village context, sustainability is often practical, local and everyday.

It might include:

Small actions can matter, especially when they connect with wider community effort.

Local groups and projects

Sustainable Witchford is not intended to replace existing groups or duplicate work that is already happening.

The aim is to make local activity easier to find, easier to support and easier to connect.

Local groups, roles and organisations can be listed on the community groups page. Practical ideas and activities may also be added to the projects, events and resources sections as the site develops.

Not another committee

Sustainable Witchford is intended to support practical local action, not create unnecessary meetings or formal structures.

Taking part does not require joining a formal organisation. Residents can share an idea, support a project, attend an event, volunteer occasionally, provide information, offer skills, or simply follow what is happening locally.

Logo competition

Sustainable Witchford does not yet have a final visual identity. A local logo competition is being used to invite residents to help shape how the network looks and feels.

Details are available on the logo competition page, and submitted entries can be viewed in the logo gallery.
