Sustainable Witchford Logo Competition
A logo competition for a community-led network supporting practical local action in Witchford.
Help create the Sustainable Witchford logo
Sustainable Witchford is a new community-led network for the village. The network aims to highlight and support the work that individuals, groups, organisations and businesses are already doing to make Witchford more sustainable, while encouraging and nurturing new ideas with the same goal.
A logo is now needed.
Rather than commissioning one behind closed doors, local residents are invited to help create it. This is a chance to celebrate local creativity, involve the whole village, and give Sustainable Witchford an identity that feels rooted in the community it represents.
The closing date for entries is .
Submitted entries can be viewed in the logo gallery.
The brief
Design a logo for Sustainable Witchford.
The logo should reflect practical local action, community, nature, care for the village, and hope for the future. It does not need to include all of these ideas literally. A simple, memorable and flexible design is likely to work better than something very detailed.
The name should be written consistently as:
Sustainable Witchford
Who can enter?
There are three planned entry categories:
- Primary-age children — for children at primary school age
- Young designers — for secondary school, sixth form and college-age entrants
- Adult and professional entrants — for adults, students, designers and anyone with an interest in visual design
Primary-age children are very welcome to take part. They may get help from an adult in their life, such as a parent, carer, teacher, group leader or family member. The idea should still come from the child, but adults can help with things like reading the brief, scanning or photographing the design, submitting the entry, or turning a hand-drawn idea into a digital file.
The intention is to award a winner and two runners-up in each category, with one overall design chosen as the new Sustainable Witchford logo.
An online logo gallery is available on this site. A local exhibition of submitted designs may also be held, so that the wider community can see and celebrate the work.
Design requirements
Entries should:
- be original work
- not be copied, generated from someone else’s design, or already used elsewhere
- work well in colour and in black and white
- be simple, clear and recognisable
- work at both large and small sizes
- be suitable for use online, in print, on posters, on social media and as a small icon
For adult, professional, sixth form, college and secondary-age entrants, the logo should ideally be supplied in a vector format such as SVG, PDF, EPS or AI.
For primary-age children, hand-drawn entries are very welcome. These can be photographed or scanned. If a primary-age child’s design is chosen, the design may be developed with the child and their parent, carer, school or responsible adult to turn the idea into a final digital version.
A suggested typeface or font style can also be included, but this is optional.
Copyright and use of the winning design
By entering the competition, entrants confirm that the design is their own original work.
The overall winning design will become the logo of Sustainable Witchford. The winner will be asked to transfer the copyright in the final artwork to Sustainable Witchford so that it can be used freely for the website, printed materials, social media, signage, publicity and other community purposes.
The winning designer will still be able to show the work in their portfolio, on their website, on social media, or in promotional material, as long as it is clear that the logo was created for Sustainable Witchford.
For entrants under 18, a parent, guardian or appropriate school or college representative will need to confirm permission before a winning design can be formally adopted.
Prizes
The intention is to offer a prize for the overall winner and recognition for runners-up in each category.
Local businesses or supporters may be approached to help provide a prize fund. Details will be announced before the competition opens formally.
Judging
Entries will be judged on:
- how well they reflect Sustainable Witchford’s purpose and values
- originality
- simplicity
- flexibility
- suitability for use across different formats
- how well the design works in both colour and black and white
The judging panel is expected to include people involved in Sustainable Witchford and at least one person with design experience.
The right is reserved not to choose a winner if no entry is suitable for use as the final logo.
